State History

Illinois has a very cool history.  The Native tribes of Illinois are

Chaokia, Kaskaskia, Michcgamea, Peorio and Tamaraa.  

The land that is in Illinois was acquired after the French Indian war. The first settlers to live on this land were from France.

In 1673 Marquette and Jolliet were the first Europeans to explore Illinois.

In 1717 Illinois became the part of the Louisiana territory .

But in 1763, at the end of the French and Indian war, British

took over. In 1818 Illinois  was declared the 21st state.  Illinois was declared a state on December 3, 1818. From1861-1865 during the Civil War, Illinois had many battles. More than 250,000 troops fought in the Civil War. In 1871 the fire of Chicago swept through. There were theories that a cow kicked down a lantern when some body was milking the cow. After that Chicago was rebuilt modern.
